| RETIRED EMPLOYEES OF KERN COUNTY
MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
February 8, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 12:00 noon. Walter Stewart led the Pledge of
Allegiance and a moment of silence. President, Norman Briggs, announced that all
handicapped and the head table could get their lunch. At this time President Briggs
announced table assignments and they followed the head table and the handicapped members.
There were no new members, guests or first-time attendees.
After lunch President Norman Briggs, turned the meeting over to 1st Vice
President, Jeanne Berkshire, to introduce our guest speaker. 1st Vice
President, Jeanne Berkshire, introduced one of our members, Dut Dauwalder, to introduce
our speaker. Dut introduced Dennis Wallace who is Executive Director of Golden Empire
Habitat for Humanity. Dennis gave a very interesting and informative talk. He
explained how their organization picks the new home owner and how the house payment is
calculated. He also told that the new owners have to put 500 hours into building their new
house.
BUSINESS MEETING:
TREASURER, John DeMario gave the Treasurers Report for January 2005. John
also stated that the Board had approved the 2005 Budget at their meeting this morning. It
will be published in the next TREND. The report stated that the REOKC membership as of
January 31, 2005 was 3,201.
CRCEA Everett Julkowski announced that the CRCEA Spring Conference would
be held at The Coast Long Beach Hotel from March 21st through March 23rd
and is hosted by Los Angeles County. At this time Everett does not have an agenda for the
conference but hopefully will get more information and it will be published in the TREND
or announced at our next meeting.
EYE GLASS No Report
SUNSHINE Belva Jared announced that she sent Get Well Cards to Louella
Strong, John DeMario, Cynthia Wooner, Margaret Julkowski, Jack Doty and Mrs. Carnahan. She
also sent Sympathy Cards to the families of Walter Nelson, Joyce Gafford, Harold Matlock,
Wanda Davis and Lonnie Gillian. She also sent a Sympathy Card to Wanda Castro.
HOST/HOSTESS PROGRAM Mary Lou Bennett reported that for the month of
January there were 33 volunteers who worked 102 hours and assisted 1,161 visitors to the
County Administration Building. Mary Lou also announced that Blue OConnor has
volunteered to work the entire day of the deadline for paying property taxes.
NEWSLETTER President, Norman Briggs, announced that the deadline for
articles to be published in the next TREND is February 15th. The TREND should
be out between the 20th and 28th of February.
OLD BUSINESS: There were two computers to be given away today. The winners were
Ealise Denman and Lois Porter.
NEW BUSINESS: No New Business
The attendance prize was won by Jina D. Rowin. There were 33 - $5.00 amounts for the
cash giveaway. After the distribution of prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 1:38 p.m.
