 COMMITTEE REPORTS:

CRCEA – Everett Julkowski was not in attendance at the meeting.

CCAPE – Blue O’Connor was not in attendance at the meeting.

Host/Hostess Program – For the month of May, 30 volunteers worked 92 hours  and assisted 1,007 visitors to the County Administration Building.

Monthly Program – This month we will have Audrey Cochran speaking on “Surviving the Emergency Room”.  For the month of July we will have the voting machines to use during our barbecue.  For the month of August  Kelly McWatters from Smith Barney will be doing an educational program for our membership.

Newsletter – Discussion was held in regard to getting the TREND out early.  The fact that the barbecue is early in July and we need to get the registration form out to the membership.  At the time that Joe took this position, his wife was able to help him with the TREND.  His wife is now working full time and is a full time student.  Joe lines it all up and his wife does the typing.  The request is for the deadline to be moved up to the 15th and Joe try his best to get it out early.  Jerry Dodd requested a Thank You to Whitewater Car Wash for the Mothers and Fathers Day Gifts.

COMMUNICATIONS:  President, David Merritt, received a letter requesting him to join in the festivities of “Volunteer Host/Hostess Day”.  He also received a copy of a letter from General Services to the Board of Supervisors requesting to proclaim May 20, 2003 as Volunteer Host/Hostess Day.  President, David Merritt, also received 11 County Newsletters.  He also received the slide presentation of the latest Actuarial Study in paper form from David Deutsch.

 OLD BUSINESS:

Status of Public Relations Committee – No Report

Web Page – Norman Briggs got rid of the black box that appeared in the last issue of the TREND.  John DeMario requested checking which minutes are        missing on the Web Page and getting them up to date.  The Secretary stated      that she would check it out and e-mail those minutes to Norman to include         them on the Web Page.  The hit count has been continuously going up.

Directors and Officers Liability Insurance – The insurance from Pacific Group Agencies has been renewed.  This is the free insurance we are part of     through CRCEA.  Stephen Pettee called President, David Merritt, telling         him that they have a dental plan that he will give for free to someone up          here to try that needs some dental work.  They market a plan that they are          trying to promote to groups.

Monthly Luncheons – President, David Merritt, received a telephone call from David Deutsch, with regard to our letter to him to do the withholding from  the check.  It is now in the hands of County Counsel.  Apparently, some         other questions came up with the Retirement Boards ability to remove          monies from retirees checks to pay things and the language in the individual         waiver to withdraw that money.

 NEW BUSINESS:

Jeanne Berkshire volunteered to call and pick up the paper for tables from Alice Mack.  Alice Mack has been under the weather the last few months and not able to attend our meetings.  Jeanne also volunteered to take on the responsibility to get someone to set up Norris Road Veterans Hall for the barbecue.  The decision was made to start our monthly luncheons in August.  We will do the deductions once we get the permission from County Counsel's office. Jeanne Berkshire still needs a list of the new retirees so that personal follow-up telephone calls can be made to the retirees who do not join our organization when they retire.

MOTION was made by John DeMario to send a free luncheon ticket for two to all new retirees within the Kern County Zip Code area; seconded by Opal Hargis and CARRIED.

Fair Report – Jeanne Berkshire spoke with Jeanne Burton at the Fair and they will be having a meeting and Jeanne Berkshire will be contacting her committee, Tom McCarthy and Ellie Wells to accompany her to this meeting.  Jeanne also stated that she will have sign up sheets at the July barbecue for those who wish to sign up to work at the Fair.

Wanda Castro, representative from the Retirement Board, announced that they  have hired an Assistant Executive Director who will be starting July 14th. Her name is Ann Holdren and she came from a retirement system in the state of Washington.  Wanda also distributed a letter from the CAO’s office regarding “Advance Retirement Planning Seminars” that the CAO’s office is working on.

Norman Briggs is putting together a list of members who will go to the Web Page to read the TREND instead of receiving it in the mail.  Doris Williams stated that if Norman will give her a list of names she will cross those names off of the list to make labels for the TREND.

MOTION by Doris Williams to pay the speaker at today’s meeting $100; seconded by Opal Hargis and CARRIED.

MOTION to adjourn at 11:25 A.M. by John DeMario; seconded by Norman Briggs, Tom McCarthy and Doris Williams and CARRIED.

RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,

Ginger Mello, Secretary
