June 10, 2003

The meeting was called to order by President, David Merritt, at 12:00 P.M.  Vernon Lowe led the Pledge of Allegiance.  A moment of silence was held.

In attendance were two recent retirees.  They were Marty Busby from Roads and Betty Harrison a Beneficiary.  Carol Hunter who retired from Human Services a number of years ago but this was the first meeting she had attended.

Vice President, Norman Briggs introduced our speaker for today.  The speaker was Audrey Cochran from Health Care Planning and Education for the Elderly and Their Families.   Audrey is the educator for this organization.   Audrey gave a list of Survival Skills for Emergency Room Use.  It was very interesting to learn that there is a group who is working on trying to get the time at the ER reduced and also why is it taking so long at the ER.

Doris Williams gave the Treasurer’s Report for May 31, 2003.  Doris reported the total REOKC membership as of May 31, 2003 was 3,099.

 BUSINESS MEETING:

CRCEA – Everett Julkowski was not in attendance.

EYE GLASS – Helen Heath reported that since last month she has collected 2 pair of glasses and cases.

NEWSLETTER – Joe Porter, TREND editor, will be attempting to get the TREND out a little early in July so that the membership will be able to respond to Doris Smith with their reservation for the July Picnic.

OLD BUSINESS:  July Picnic will be July 8th at the Norris Road Veterans Hall.  Norman Briggs and Tom McCarthy will be picking up barbecues and returning them after cleaning them up.   Norman Briggs has been able to get the new voting machines for the membership to use before the lunch.  Jeanne Berkshire will have the sign up sheet at the luncheon for volunteering at the Fair.  Everybody who volunteers at the fair will still go to the Christmas Luncheon at no cost.  The volunteer time that the membership does gives us the Harvest Hall free for the luncheon.

 NEW BUSINESS:  No new business.

This meeting the lucky men received coupons for a car wash as a Fathers Day Gift.

The attendance prize was won by Carol Hunter.

There were 29 - $5.00 door prizes.   After the distribution of prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 1:40 P.M.

Respectfully submitted this 23rd day of June, 2003.
