MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

June 8, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 12:00 noon.  Walter Stewart led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence was held.  There were three new members in attendance.  The table numbers were announced and the members went in order after the head table and handicapped got their lunch.

 Vice-President, Jeanne Berkshire, introduced Elaine Deaton.  Elaine is a fabulous singer.  Elaine started by giving a little background on herself.  Elaine sang God Bless the USA, a hymn medley, a show tunes medley and finished with God Bless America.  Our Vice-President is doing an excellent job in finding our speakers and entertainers.

 Vice-President, Jeanne Berkshire, introduced Cathy Olague from Kern Federal Credit Union who asked numerous questions concerning how the members felt about the Credit Union Annual Meeting held in May.  Cathy plans to bring the photos from the Annual Meeting to our Barbecue in July for everybody to see.  Cathy will meet with the Board of Directors for the Credit Union and give them the information that she received from our membership regarding the Annual Meeting.  This year attendance was the highest they have ever had with a total of 340.

 BUSINESS MEETING:

 TREASURER, John DeMario, gave the Treasurer’s Report for May 31, 2004.   The report stated that the total REOKC membership as of May 31, 2004 was 3,179.

 CRCEA – AB979 is stalled in the Senate and at a future date letters to the Governor will be needed.  Everett Julkowski will contact the Board to request letters be sent.  The CRCEA Fall Conference is October 18 – 20, 2004 in Fresno.  This year is CRCEA’s 35th Anniversary of being in existence.  Roy Ashburn will be the keynote speaker.  The cost is $15.00 to attend.

 EYE GLASS – Helen Heath reported that she had collected 6 pair of glasses, 6 eye glass cases and 2 pair of dark glasses.

 SUNSHINE – Belva Jared reported that she has no report.

 HOST/HOSTESS – Mary Lou Bennett reported that there were 33 volunteers who worked 100 hours and assisted 1,142 visitors to the County Administration Building.   Mary Lou announced that she is still accepting volunteers who would like to help in the information desk at the County Administration Building.

 NEWSLETTER – All articles for the newsletter needs to be at The TREND editors e-mail no later than June 15, 2004.

 OLD BUSINESS:  Vice-President, Jeanne Berkshire, announced that after speaking to Doris Williams, she would like to wish each and every one of you a HAPPY 40TH ANNIVERSARY.  REOKC was organized in 1964.

 NEW BUSINESS:  John DeMario announced that recently a letter was received by REOKC from the County Administration Office announcing that the insurance for retirees under the age of 65 will be going up.  This change will become effective September 1, 2004.  John stated that all County employees under the age of 65 will also change at the same time as the retirees under the age of 65.

 Vice-President, Jeanne Berkshire, reminded everybody that our next meeting will be at the Norris Road Veterans Hall on July 13th.  This year we will have entertainment starting at 11:30 a.m., while the hamburgers are being cooked and the rest of our lunch is being prepared.  The entertainment will be Sam Moore and his group.

  The attendance prize was won by Lois Porter.  There were 25 - $5.00, also 3 sets of travel mugs and key chains donated by Kern Federal Credit Union.  Vice-President, Jeanne Berkshire called the numbers for the door prizes.    After the distribution of prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
