RETIRED EMPLOYEES OF KERN COUNTY
MINUTES OF GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

March 11, 2003

The meeting was called to order by President, David Merritt at 11:58 a.m. Walter Stewart led the Pledge of Allegiance.  A moment of silence was held.

There were no new members, guests or first-time attendees at our meeting.

While the South High School Jazz Band was setting up, Bud Fraser, Kern County Fire Department Retiree spoke inviting any of our members that would like to go to Stateline for a couple of days to go with the Fire Department retirees.  The trip is to be April 22-24, 2003 and will cost $50.00 a person for sharing a room. If you stay only one person to a room the cost is $68.00.  With this price you get your transportation by Coach USA to and from Stateline, 2 nights and 2 buffet dinners.  Parking will be at Valley Plaza and security is aware so there will be some safety.

Doris Williams gave the Treasurer’s Report for February 28, 2003.  Doris reported the total REOKC membership as of February 28, 2003 was 3,058.

South High School Jazz Band played some great music for our membership.  It was enjoyed by everyone in attendance.  The Jazz Band has always given our membership great entertainment.  This year was no different.

BUSINESS MEETING:

CRCEA – Everett Julkowski was not in attendance.  He did announce in the Board Meeting that because of a car accident he was involved in, he will not be able to go to the Spring Conference.  David Merritt being the alternate will be attending the conference.

EYE GLASS – No Report

SUNSHINE – Elinor Wells reported that she sent out 4 cards during the month of February.

NEWSLETTER – The TREND will be coming out soon.  The TREND is at the printers now.

OLD BUSINESS:

There will be a host/hostess program luncheon on May 20, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. in the 3rd floor multi-purpose room.  This luncheon is sponsored by the Board of Supervisors.  Letters will be going to the members of the program very soon.

The Board voted today to sign a year contract with Mossman’s for our luncheons.  We are still hoping to go to monthly luncheons.  John DeMario was not in attendance at the meeting today.  John is working on the deductions for the $5.00 luncheon price and other final details.  The luncheons will be served on disposable plates with disposable utensils.  This decision was made after the luncheon committee put bids out to seven (7) different businesses.  Only four (4) businesses responded to the bids.  The Board felt that to save our organization money, our best choice would be Mossman’s.

NEW BUSINESS:

No new business

The attendance prize was won by Elaine Ezell.

There were 11 - $5.00 door prizes to be given out.  After the distribution of door prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 12:42 p.m.

Respectfully submitted this 14th day of March, 2003.
