The meeting was called to order at 12:00 noon. Walter Stewart led the Pledge of Allegiance and a
moment of silence was held. There were NO new
members, guests or first-time attendees. The
table numbers were announced and they went in order after the head table and handicapped.

Identity Theft was given but on very short notice, so they will include it
with Whats Your Score.
President, Norman Briggs, introduced Jeanne Berkshire, Vice
President, who introduced our speaker for today. Jeanne
introduced Angelo Frazier, Chaplain with Bakersfield Rescue Mission. Angelo started his program with playing the guitar
and singing Jesus Loves Me while accompanied by the membership in attendance. Angelo stated that this is one of the songs that
they sing at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission. Angelo
spoke numerous times regarding his grandmother. He
really knew how to get the audience involved. Angelo
told what was happening at the Mission and invited everybody in attendance to please come
down to the Mission and see exactly what is going on.
Angelo finished with showing a short video showing the things that happen at
the Mission. After the video, Angelo led the
membership in singing Amazing Grace.
Before the Business Meeting, a discussion was held regarding
the voting for the next year caterers. Everett
Julkowski, John DeMario and Ginger Mello were the committee who delivered or sent out
Request for Quotation forms to 10 different local caterers.
The forms were to be returned to Ginger. Ginger received quotes back from 5
of the 10 caterers. Of these 5, only 3 were
prices that our membership could deal with. There
were 2 quotes that were over $9.00 a person. Ginger
made a form for each member that showed the quotes for Mossmans, Too Fat Catering
and Western Kitchen. It was announced that if
you vote for Too Fat Catering or Western Kitchen that the price would increase. It was asked if there were any questions. Seeing NO questions, it was decided that the vote
for caterer would be first and after the caterer was announced that the decision of China
or Disposable Plates would be decided. The
ballots were distributed and the voting was completed.
The ballots were collected and John DeMario and Ginger Mello started
counting the votes. Everett Julkowski counted
the ballots a second time. The votes were as
follows:
Too
Fat Catering
1
Western
Kitchen
24
Mossmans
57
It was announced that Mossmans would be our caterers for
the next year. Ginger asked for a show of
hands for those who wanted disposable plates most of the hands went up. When asked for a show of hands for those who
wanted China Ginger saw 1 hand. It was
then announced that the caterer and dishes would stay the same. At this point two members stated that the price
increase was misrepresented. It was explained
to them how the $7.00 price was figured. When
it was figured, it was on the worse price possible.
BUSINESS MEETING:
Treasurer, John DeMario, gave the Treasurers Report for
April 30, 2004. The report stated that the
total REOKC membership as of April 30, 2004 was 3,160.
CRCEA Everett Julkowski stated that AB979 has been
passed through both Legislatures and is on the Governors desk for signature. This bill has four parts to it but the part that
we are most interested in is that the bill will allow the use of life insurance to provide
the death benefit. This will save the retirees
beneficiary up to 25% taxes on the death benefit. At
this time we have a $1,000 death benefit but that amount is taxed and you only receive
$750. If this bill is signed, the death
benefit will go into a life insurance and when you die your beneficiary will get the whole
$1,000. Now is the time to write letters to
the Governor. The letters need to be to the
Governor no later than May 24, 2004. Everett
gave out the address and requested that everybody write a personal handwritten letter to
the Governor in support of AB979 and urging him to sign the bill.
EYE GLASS Helen Heath reported that she had collected 2
glasses and 3 cases.
SUNSHINE - Belva Jared reported that she had sent out 3
sympathy cards and 2 get-well cards. Belva
announced that Herman Riese is very ill.
HOST/HOSTESS Mary Lou Bennett announced that last month
she had gotten 2 people that had volunteered but she now has lost 2 people. Mary Lou stated that she would leave a form for
members to sign up if they wish to after the meeting.
NEWSLETTER - The newsletter was in the mail by the 20th
or the 21st. Hopefully this was
early enough so everybody could read who the speaker was going to be and what the menu was
for this meeting.
OLD BUSINESS: No
