MINUTES
OF GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
March 9,
2004
At 12:00 noon the numbers were announced
for each table. The head table and physically
handicapped members were allowed to get their lunch with the tables in order following. The catered lunch was enjoyed by all in
attendance. The meeting was called to order
at 12:30 p.m. Walter Stewart led the Pledge
of Allegiance and a moment of silence was held. One
new member, Mitch Van Wyk was in attendance. There
were no first time attendees or guests.
President, Norman Briggs, introduced
Jeanne Berkshire, Vice President, who introduced our speaker for today. Jeanne introduced Rusty Shoop from Channel 29. Rusty Shoop thanked the members who commented
regarding Lisa Krch. Lisa and Rusty have
worked together a number of years now. Rusty
didnt think he would ever be in Bakersfield as long as he has been. Rusty is celebrating his 20th year in
Bakersfield. Rusty gave a short synopsis on
his life and how the news is gathered and presented. It was a very interesting
presentation. Rusty and his wife will
probably retire in Montana. He has 3
grandchildren in Montana and 3 in Hawaii. They
purchased some property in Montana to be closer to the grandchildren. Rusty stated that
the Newscasters do not try to editorialize. News
context is put together by the News Director, not by the Newscasters.
President, Norman Briggs, introduced
Michelle Watkins and Jan from the Kern Federal Credit Union. Michelle wanted to announce that the Credit Union
Annual Meeting will be held on May 13, 2004.
BUSINESS MEETING:
Treasurer, John DeMario, gave the
Treasurers Report for February 29, 2004. John
reported the total REOKC membership as of February 29, 2004 was 3,137. Treasurer DeMario also announced that each retiree
will receive a 2.5% cost of living raise on their April paycheck.
CRCEA Everett Julkowski was not
able to stay for our membership meeting. Alternate
CRCEA delegate, David Merritt, reported that the Spring CRCEA Conference will be held in
Visalia from March 22 through 24, 2004. David
reported on the important issues that will be discussed at the conference this year.

NEWSLETTER President, Norman
Briggs, announced that The TREND got out earlier than usual this month. Please inform President, Norman Briggs, if you
have access to the internet. It is costing 80
cents to send out the TREND at this time and we all know that the price of postage keeps
going up as does everything else. A new
item that is being printed in the TREND is the programs and menus for each month.
OLD BUSINESS: President, Norman Briggs, announced that we
will be starting a computer give away in the near future.
We have received a couple of computers for this program. Another announcement was to be able to get a few
more people to volunteer for the Host and Hostess Program.
NEW
BUSINESS: Jerry Dodd asked about a rumor that
he had heard regarding the Board of Directors is looking to open an office for REOKC. President, Norman Briggs, stated that it is in the
exploratory stage. That there is a
possibility that there will be office space available in the Kern Federal Credit Union
building in the future. The office
would be manned by volunteers 4 5 days a week for a few hours. This would be a great place to have all materials
stored.
The attendance prize was won by Orval
Wooner.
There were 29 - $5.00, also 2 ink pens
and 2 maglights donated by Kern Federal Credit Union.
President, Norman Briggs had to leave the meeting so Treasurer, John DeMario
called the numbers for the door prizes. After
the distribution of prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 1:38 p.m.
