At 12:00 noon the numbers were announced for each table.  The head table and physically handicapped members were allowed to get their lunch with the tables in order following.  The catered lunch was enjoyed by all in attendance.  The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m.  Walter Stewart led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence was held.  One new member, Mitch Van Wyk was in attendance.  There were no first time attendees or guests.

President, Norman Briggs, introduced Jeanne Berkshire, Vice President, who introduced our speaker for today.  Jeanne introduced Rusty Shoop from Channel 29.  Rusty Shoop thanked the members who commented regarding Lisa Krch.  Lisa and Rusty have worked together a number of years now.  Rusty didn’t think he would ever be in Bakersfield as long as he has been.  Rusty is celebrating his 20th year in Bakersfield.  Rusty gave a short synopsis on his life and how the news is gathered and presented. It was a very interesting presentation.  Rusty and his wife will probably retire in Montana.  He has 3 grandchildren in Montana and 3 in Hawaii.  They purchased some property in Montana to be closer to the grandchildren. Rusty stated that the Newscasters do not try to editorialize.  News context is put together by the News Director, not by the Newscasters.

NEWSLETTER – President, Norman Briggs, announced that The TREND got out earlier than usual this month.  Please inform President, Norman Briggs, if you have access to the internet.  It is costing 80 cents to send out the TREND at this time and we all know that the price of postage keeps going up as does everything else.   A new item that is being printed in the TREND is the programs and menus for each month.

OLD BUSINESS:   President, Norman Briggs, announced that we will be starting a computer give away in the near future.   We have received a couple of computers for this program.  Another announcement was to be able to get a few more people to volunteer for the Host and Hostess Program.

NEW BUSINESS:  Jerry Dodd asked about a rumor that he had heard regarding the Board of Directors is looking to open an office for REOKC.  President, Norman Briggs, stated that it is in the exploratory stage.  That there is a possibility that there will be office space available in the Kern Federal Credit Union building in the future.   The office would be manned by volunteers 4 – 5 days a week for a few hours.  This would be a great place to have all materials stored.

The attendance prize was won by Orval Wooner.

There were 29 - $5.00, also 2 ink pens and 2 maglights donated by Kern Federal Credit Union.   President, Norman Briggs had to leave the meeting so Treasurer, John DeMario called the numbers for the door prizes.  After the distribution of prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 1:38 p.m.

Respectfully submitted this 14th day of March, 2004.
