MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

May 10, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 12:00 noon.  Walter Stewart led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence was held.  Vice President, Jeanne Berkshire, in place of President, Norman Briggs, announced that all the handicapped and the head table could get their lunch while the table numbers were given out.  There were several guests in attendance at the meeting. 

 After lunch, 1st Vice President Jeanne Berkshire introduced our speaker, Vaughn Barnett.  Mr. Barnett is a Certified Master Hypnotist.  Mr. Barnett described the type of work that he deals with and it isn’t what we thought it would be.  He uses his ability to hypnotize people to help them improve their health or manage their pain better.  He does a lot of work with cancer patients.

 BUSINESS MEETING:

TREASURER, John DeMario gave the Treasurer’s Report for April 2005.  There have been a total of 296 new retirees since January 1, 2005.  The report stated that REOKC membership as of April 30, 2005 was 3,408. 

Cathy Olague, Kern Federal Credit Union, reminded the membership of the Annual Meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 12th and to wear layers because you don’t know what the weather is going to do at this time of year.  The theme is patriotic and will be “Honoring Our Troops”.  There will be Marines to honor the flag.  The credit union is planning to open the Auto Mall Branch on June 6th.   There is a CD special running right now with a minimum of $1,000 for 5 months and earn 3.25% and for 8 months earn 3.5%.

 CRCEA – No Report

 EYE GLASS -  Helen Heath reported that she collected 1 pair of glasses and 3 cases since her report last month.

 SUNSHINE – Belva Jared reported that she sent 2 Sympathy cards and requested that anyone knowing of a member being ill, please contact her.

 HOST/HOSTESS PROGRAM – Mary Lou Bennett reported that for the month of April there were 32 volunteers who worked 111 hours and assisted 1,537 visitors to the County Administration Building.  Mary Lou is in need of more volunteers to help at the information booth.  Mary Lou is scheduling some of the volunteers for more than one shift in a month.

 Newsletter – No Report

 OLD BUSINESS:  The decoration committee, Carole Rugnao and Thelda Carnahan, has been doing the decorations now for a year and they would like some help or to be replaced.

 NEW BUSINESS:  An announcement was made that the July meeting is our annual barbecue to be held at the Norris Road Veterans Hall on July 12th but that you still need tickets and you can pick them up at the June meeting or send your self addressed, stamped envelope to Doris Williams and received them in the mail.  An announcement was also made that the November meeting would be held on November 1st which is the first Tuesday in November.  The second Tuesday in November is Election Day and the Hall will be used as a Voting Precinct.

 The attendance prize was won by John DeMario.  There were 34 - $5.00 amounts for the cash giveaway and 3 throws donated by the Kern Federal Credit Union.  After the distribution of prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 1:38 p.m.
