RETIRED EMPLOYEES OF KERN COUNTY

MINUTES OF THE GENERAL  MEETING

                                                     November 1, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 12:02 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Walter Stewart and a moment of silence was held.  President, Norman Briggs, announced the order of the tables.  He announced that after the handicapped and head table goes to get their lunches that the tables in order of numbers drawn could pick up their lunch.  There was one new member in attendance today.

President, Norman Briggs, introduced Michelle Watkins from the Kern Federal Credit Union.  Michelle introduced Patty Johnson also from the credit union.  Michelle announced that Cathy Olague had left employment at the credit union and everybody misses her.  Michelle also announced that she brought some flyers regarding banking online and bill pay online.  All of these are free.  Michelle also brought some of the credit union newsletters.  Michelle also brought 3 beige blankets and 3 coffee mugs to raffle off with the cash today.  President, Norman Briggs, read an e-mail letter from Cathy Olague to the membership concerning her resignation from the credit union.

President, Norman Briggs, introduced Jeanne Berkshire, our 1st Vice-President, who thanked everybody who worked at the fair.  There were 41 members who worked at the fair this year.  Out of the 41, there were 4 who worked double shifts.   At this time Jeanne   introduced our guest speaker, Paulanna Hodges.  Paulanna is from the Health Benefits Office for Kern County.  Paulanna spoke regarding health benefits and the fact that some of the premiums were reduced this year.  The reason for this is the fact that Medicare Part D has caused the premium to go down.  For those retirees under 65, their premiums were not reduced.  The bottom line is that if the retiree has insurance through Kern County, DO NOT enroll in any Medicare Part D program.  If the retiree has BLUE CROSS SILVER through Kern County, then they need to contact the Blue Cross Silver Office for assistance in this matter.  Numerous questions were asked and Paulanna was able to answer those questions.  Paulanna also reminded everybody about the Health Fair on Thursday, November 3rd from 2 p.m. until all retirees have left.
