COMMITTEE REPORTS:

CRCEA – No Report

CCAPE – No Report

Host/Hostess Program – For the month of September, 31 volunteers worked 95 hours and assisted 1,368 visitors at the County Administration Building.

Monthly Program – Our speaker today will be Paulanna Hodges from the Health Benefits office giving us a rundown on the health plans and premiums for the coming year.  The Health Department did not get back to Nettie regarding having a Flu Clinic this year.  Norm Briggs and John DeMario will also be giving an introduction of our Web Site to the membership today.  For November, Hoffman Hospice will be here to speak on the Basics of Hospice Care.  For our Christmas Luncheon in December, we will have entertainment from Stockdale High School.

Newsletter – Joe Porter is in need of a write up for the special political TREND that will be going out.  The decision was made for Norm to do the write up for this issue of the TREND.  In upcoming issues of the TREND will be a column on Financial Tidbits.

COMMUNICATIONS:  The President received several County Newsletters, a newsletter from Bakersfield Homeless Shelter, an Office Furniture Catalog, and both the Treasurer and the President received copies of our insurance policy from Pacific Group Agencies.  The President also gave the secretary copies of the letters he sent to the six candidates that were interviewed at the August 29th meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Status of Procedures for Special Use Fund – No Report

Status of Public Relations Committee – No Report today, but the committee will be meeting in the near future.

Web Page – Norm Briggs reported that John DeMario keeps finding mistakes and that Norm tries to fix those mistakes.  Everett Julkowski asked if there is a way to link with other county retiree groups to see what they have on their web sites.  The Web Page is coming along fine.

Status of Political Interview Committee – This was covered under Newsletter.

Fair Report – Jeanne Berkshire gave a big THANK YOU to all who helped.  There were 2 retirees who worked triple shifts, 8 retirees who worked double shifts and 34 retirees who worked single shifts.  Each shift was 4 hours long.  Those retirees who worked will receive a free Christmas luncheon ticket and the work is provided so that we can use Harvest Hall at no charge.

Nominating Committee Report – Opal Hargis gave the report as follows:

  President - David Merritt

1st Vice President – Norman Briggs

2nd Vice President – Jeanne Berkshire

Secretary - Ginger Mello

Treasurer - Board Members continuing are Allan Choy and Opal Hargis

At this time the committee is still looking for a person to replace Doris Williams as Treasurer.  A discussion was held regarding the new computers and computer software that could be utilized in the position of Treasurer.  Both Norm Briggs and John DeMario feel that Quik Books is the way to go for the Treasurer.  President, David Merritt, does not have a problem with Norm Briggs meeting with Doris Williams at the end of the year, after the December 31, 2002 reports are ready and see if what we have can be transferred over onto Quik Books.  President, David Merritt, states that whoever takes the job of Treasurer has their own computer; he would not be adverse to REOKC purchasing a copy of the Quik Books Software to give to the person so that they have the disks in case something gets bumped.

Everett Julkowski reported that he turned the brochure that he was working on over to Cathy Olague, Kern Federal Credit Union representative and she turned it over to their Graphic Artist and Everett will have a copy for us to see at our November meeting.  This will be a freebie from the Credit Union.

NEW BUSINESS:

·        Executive Session – President, David Merritt, called the Board into Executive Session with only the officers and board members present at 11:10 A.M.

After the Executive Session was adjourned, a MOTION was made by Opal Hargis and seconded by Tom McCarthy to adjourn the meeting today at 11:31 A.M., and CARRIED.

RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED,

Ginger Mello, Secretary
