MINUTES OF THE
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
September
10, 2002
The meeting was
called to order by President, David
Merritt, at 12:07 P.M.
Walter Stewart led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
A moment of silence was held in
remembrance of the events of one year ago.
There were no new
members,
guests or first-time attendees at
this meeting.
President, David
Merritt, introduced our speaker today.
Jimmy A. Steen, formerly with the
Bakersfield Police Department and is now a
Certified Senior Advisor.
Mr. Steen spoke to the membership
regarding matters of importance to
Seniors, including Medical Protection
Nursing Homes, stretch IRA’s and Reverse
Mortgages.
The statistics show that 52% of
women and 33% of men over the age of 65
spend some time in a nursing home.
Medical will help you if you
qualify, but neither the nursing homes nor
the government will tell you if you
qualify.
BUSINESS MEETING:
Doris Williams gave
the Treasurer’s Report for August 31,
2002.
Doris reported the total REOKC
membership, as of August 31, 2002
was 3,032.
CRCEA – Everett
Julkowski was not able to attend the
membership meeting.
President, David Merritt stated
that the Fall Conference
will be held in Marin County in
October.
EYE GLASS – Helen
Heath was not in attendance at the
meeting.
SUNSHINE – No
Report
NEWSLETTER – A
special issue of the TREND will be
published in September.
President, David Merritt, stated
that the latest issue of the TREND is on
the Web Page.
There will be a demonstration of
the Web Page at the October
meeting.
The TREND has one correction on the
back page where upcoming dates are listed.
The Christmas party will be held at
Harvest Hall at the Kern County
Fairgrounds on December 10, 2002.
NEW BUSINESS:
Volunteers are still needed to work
at the Fair prior to the opening day of
the fair.
Jeannie Berkshire would love to
hear from you and if you work you get your
Christmas lunch free.
President, David Merritt, also
announced that a nominating committee was
appointed at the Board Meeting but 1
volunteer from the general membership is
still needed.
Mary Lou Bennett graciously
accepted her appointment as everybody was
pointing at her for this job.
Volunteers are also needed to help
the current ladies who decorate the hall
and help with serving.
The attendance prize
was won by Rosa Bowser.
There were 12 - $5.00
door prizes to be given out.
After the
distribution of door prizes, the meeting
was adjourned at 1:13 P.M.
