The meeting was called to order at
12:00 noon. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Walter
Stewart and a moment of silence was held. President,
Norman Briggs, announced the order in which the tables
would be going to get their lunch. The two new members
at the meeting this month were Alan Annis, Family
Support and Jeff Sampson, Fire Department.
President, Norman Briggs,
introduced our guest speaker, Anne Holdren, Executive
Director of Kern County Employees Retirement
Association. Anne gave an excellent synopsis of the
activity of KCERA over the last year. The Retirement
Board only has one vacancy and it will be filled by the
end of the year. The retirement office staff has
processed 358 new retirees between January 1, 2005 and
July 31, 2005. The Ventura project was completed late
last year and the monthly payroll has increased by a
little over $122,000 per month. This year it is
expected to pay out $6.6 million for SRBR benefits. The
retirement office is also working on a payroll deduction
for those members who would like to get insurance from
Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
President, Norman Briggs, announced
that we are hopeful of having a computer ready to raffle
off at our next meeting. The Retirement Office is
offering computers to our organization again this year.
Norman also announced that the Jeanne is in need of a
few volunteers to work as security at the fair. Norman
announced the days and times needed.
BUSINESS MEETING:
TREASURER, John DeMario
gave the Treasurer’s Report for August 2005. The report
stated that REOKC membership as of August 31, 2005 was
3,438.
President, Norman Briggs, announced
that our November meeting will be one week earlier than
usual – NOVEMBER 1st. November 1st
for our meeting and November 3rd will be the
Health Fair at the County Administration Building. The
Health Fair is very important because of the information
this year. Eric Barthel, County Consultant on Health
Benefits, will be in attendance. Eric will also be our
speaker at the October meeting and Paulanna Hodges will
be at our November meeting.
CRCEA – Everett Julkowski
was not in attendance. The CRCEA Conference will be
held in Modesto on October 17 – 19, 2005.
EYE GLASS – Helen Heath
reported that she has collected 14 pair of glasses and
14 cases since our last meeting.
SUNSHINE – Belva Jared
reported that she sent Sympathy Cards to the families of
Ken Lisenbee and Ruth Goss. Belva also sent a Get Well
Card to Ann Farrell.
HOST/HOSTESS PROGRAM – Mary
Lou Bennett was not in attendance due to illness. She
reported that for the month of August there were 41
volunteers who worked 123.5 hours and assisted 1,190
visitors to the County Administration Building.
NEWSLETTER – The newsletter
has gone out. Most members in attendance had received
there newsletters.
OLD BUSINESS: No Old
Business
NEW BUSINESS: President,
Norman Briggs, announced that the Health Care Premiums
will be in the packets. The County is in hopes of
getting all of the packets out by the end of September.
It is the understanding of President, Norman Briggs,
that if you are a member of a County sponsored HMO; the
HMO will take care of the Medicare D and you don’t have
to do anything. President, Norman Briggs, also stated
that there will be a list of premiums for each of the
insurances in the packet. It is understood that if you
have Healthnet – HMO or Blue Cross – HMO, your premium
will be going down about 40%. This information will be
in your packet and President, Norman Briggs, has not
seen a packet at this time.
The attendance prize was won by
Jina Drouin. There were 42 - $5.00 amounts and 4 candy
jars filled with candy donated by Kern Federal Credit
Union for the giveaway. After the distribution of
prizes, the meeting was adjourned at 1:53 p.m.
